I grew up with firearms. My father taught me to respect them and how to use them as tools for target practice and hunting. While at Boy Scout camp I honed my skills as I earned my merit badge. I bought my first long gun shortly after I turned 18 and my first handgun shortly after my 21 st birthday. It was a Thompson Center single shot silhouette pistol. This was my first experience with handgun training with the help of one of my uncles.
I was surprised at how accurate I could shoot a gun with only a 10-inch long barrel. I dabbled shooting very sporadically for years after. Unfortunately, 1994 stopped my enjoyment of honing my shooting skills after the Brady act passed and something as simple as buying 22 ammunition required showing your driver’s license. I felt like a criminal every time I wanted to purchase 50 rounds of 22 ammo just to go plinking or rabbit hunting.
I admit I was busy raising my family and working and didn’t think much about my firearms or using them for home defense purposes after that political mess.
In 2000 I was promoted in my job and asked to move my family to Connecticut for work. I focused on my new career putting aside my firearms in my mind until something horrible happen July 23 rd 2007 in a neighboring community approximately 15 miles from our home.
A brutal home invasion took place and made national news as two low life
criminals followed a well-known Doctor’s wife home from the grocery store to their upscale subdivision. This horrific act weighed heavy on my mind. I discussed this tragedy multiple times with my wife. We categorically said
we had to become our family’s first responder. With this decision behind us, I felt the need to train and develop my skills so we could hopefully defend ourselves from a similar home invasion. Initially, I purchased a 20 gauge shotgun. This lead to my taking a Concealed Carry class, which helped me understand that training and using a handgun better improved our skills and the odds to defend ourselves and our home defense program.
As I took additional training, my handgun skills evolved, constantly improving and I discovered my enthusiasm for what I had learned could be used to help train other friends and acquaintances. I really enjoyed helping each person I trained to improve their skills, accuracy, and confidence. I eventually became certified as an NRA and USCCA instructor.
This is ultimately what led me to start Blue Stone Defense. My goal is to help as many people as I can, to have a healthy understanding of the multiple methods anyone can use to better defend them self and their family. Not just with handguns, although good training with a handgun certainly helps even the odds for defending yourself regardless of your size or athletic abilities against predators much larger and more violent.
I would be honored to help you and your family members get the proper training you need to not only feel confident around guns but also to develop a home protection plan you can use to protect you and your family from any predators that would try to do you harm. To help you develop your skills and improve your mindset. I am also well versed in methods you can take advantage of to help you protect yourself legally and financially in what has become an increasingly litigious environment.
